God’s Plan of Salvation
Is it possible for a person to have a personal relationship with God?
If you have ever pondered this thought, you are not alone. It is a question that is very important to all of us.
I am excited by the answer! According to the Bible, there is a way for every person to know God in a personal way, and millions of people have discovered how to become a part of God’s family.
The following steps will lead you to an intimate and life-changing experience with God.
Step #1:
God really does love you. The Bible states, “For God so loved the world (you) that He gave His only Son, that whosoever (you) believes in Him should not perish (die), but have everlasting life.” [John 3:16] So, to begin our journey, we must understand that God loves us just like we are today.
Step #2:
Though God loves us, we have done things which hurt God. “For all have come short (missed the target) of the glory of God.” [Romans 3:23] Not one person is without failure. “There is none righteous, no, not one.” [Romans 3:10] All of us have hurt others, thought evil thoughts, or said things which we should not have said. All of these things are what God calls sin. Will you agree with me that all of us do things which are wrong in some way? The Bible states that we must agree with God that we have failed (sinned) in some way. “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses (goodness) are as filthy as rags. [Isaiah 64:6] We must acknowledge and confess our sin to God.
Step #3:
Our failures are bad, but our situation is no longer hopeless because God has offered us a way out. Jesus, God’s Son, said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one comes to the Father except by Me.” [John 14:6] The Bible states, “If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved.” [Romans 10:9-10]
Step #4:
When we confess (say), “God, I am a sinner and I have failed you, but I believe Jesus died for my sins, and I believe You raised Him from the dead,” we are telling God we understand that Jesus died for us, but that He is alive today. We need to say, “Forgive me for my sins. I don’t want to live like this anymore.” When we do this, we are rejecting our sins, asking for forgiveness, and we are willing to leave our sins behind.
Step #5:
You are now ready to take the final step. We must invite God into our lives. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to live with him so he can live with me.” [Revelation 3:20] Whenever a friend knocks at the door of our home, we open the door and invite him in. God is waiting for us to do the same.
Step #6:
To receive the gift of eternal life from God and enjoy a personal relationship with Him, pray these simple words from your heart to God:
“Lord Jesus, I know I have failed you and have made a mess of my life. I’ve been told that you love me even though I have failed you. Please forgive me of everything I have done against you. I believe Jesus died for my sins, and I place my trust for life in what He did for me on the cross. Lord, come into my life and change me, and help me become the person I need to be. I accept your offer of the gift of eternal life. Thank you for dying for me, and thank you for saving me and rescuing me forever. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.”
The Bible states that we become part of God’s forever family when we pray this simple prayer.
